Caistron Trout Fishery Rules

rules imageWhen fishing at Caistron Trout Fishery, you are also visiting the Caistron Nature Reserve which has SSSI status due to its diversity of flora, fauna and birdlife.

To protect this special environment and its inhabitants, we ask all visitors and anglers to treat Caistron Lake and its surrounding area with respect and observe the following rules:

  • Please use litter bins provided or take litter home.  Do not leave litter on the bank or in boats. 
  • Respect the local wildlife.

When visiting the fishery:

  • All anglers must book in on arrival at the fishery office and pay in advance.
  • Boats may be booked in advance.
  • Anglers using the worm lake must stop fishing when they have caught their limit and return to the office and record their catch.
  • Please do not use maggots, other baits or spinning methods.
  • Catch and release applies to fly fishing only and barbless hooks should be used. 
  • Unfortunately there are no wading areas.
  • Trolling is not allowed.

In the interests of safety please observe the following:

  • Maximum 2 persons per boat.
  • It is advisable to wear a life jacket.
  • Children under sixteen must be accompanied by an adult. 

General Conditions:

  • Fees are not normally refundable
  • Management reserve the right to:
    • amend the rules at any time without prior notice.
    • inspect catches, tackle and bags at random.
    • reserve the right to cancel any permit.
  • Anyone, without exception, caught discarding litter (especially fishing line which causes damage to wildlife), will be asked to leave. 
  • Fishermen and visitors enter Caistron Trout Fishery entirely at their own risk. No liability attaches to the owners for any damage, injury or loss to persons or property, however caused.
